List of Angelic (H) Beings

A Monday angel of the first heaven. An angel who is appealed to for loyal love and romance, invoked in love charms.

He governs the sign of Libra.

There are four of these angels. They are to protect men from jinn, men and Satan. It is there job to write down the actions of mortals.

(Hahael) Angel of the order of Virtues. Hahael protects missionaries and all disciples. He is also one of the 72 angels bearing the mystical name of the God Shemhamoresh. His corresponding angel is Chan-tare`, who’s description only states that he is the corresponding angel to Hahahel (Hahael).

An angel of the order of Cheri-bum. He influences thoughts and reveals hidden mysteries to mortals.

(Graciously Given of God) An archangel whose name appears inscribed on a pentagram. He’el (“life of God”) An angel leader. A ruler of the seasons of the year.

(Anael) Chief of the orders of principalities and virtues; one of the 7 archangels; governor of December, all powers of love, reputed to have transported Enoch to heaven.

Gabriel(God is my strength)

One of the two highest ranking angels. He is the angel of mercy, annunciation, dreams, aspirations, bringer of news, maker of changes, resurrection, vengeance, death and revelation. He presides over paradise and is the ruling angel of the first heaven. This archangel is a primary messenger of God, bringing divine announcements and revelations to humankind, acting as an intermediary between heaven and earth and helping us to interpret our dreams and our visions. Gabriel grants wishes and hopes to mortals, as well as joy, mercy, understanding of mysteries, truth, justice, miracles and love. Angel of January. In ancient Persian lore the angel Bahman. Essene prayer: “Gabriel, Angel of Life, enter my limbs and give strength to my whole body”.

Eponymous head of the order of galgalim (chariots of the Merkabah); chief angel of the wheel of the moon.

  • 580/570-c.500 B.C.E. Pythagoras: A Pre-Socratic philosopher. Founder of a major school of philosophy/religion that emphasized the mystical interconnections in numbers, nature, and the human soul. The natural and the ethical world were inseparable.

  • 428-348 B.C.E. Plato: Sophist, Republic, Parmenides, many others. Most important of ancient philosophers. His philosophical system provides the basis of most later mystical forms.Influences: Pythagoras, Parmenides.
  • 384-322 B.C.EAristotle .: Metaphysics, De Anima, Nicomachean Ethics. While Aristotle himself is not really considered to be a mystic, he is an important influence on later mystics, especially when combined with Plato by Plotinus, and also when Christianized in the high Middle Ages.
  • 20 B.C.E.-c.41 C.E.Philo : The Contemplative Life. An Alexandrian Jew who drew from Platonist tradition, Stoicism, and neo-Pythagoreanism to create a fusion of the active or virtuous life and the contemplative life.
  • 205-270 C.E.Plotinus : Enneads. The non-Christian, neo-Platonic basis for much Christian, Jewish, and Islamic mysticism. Influences: Plato, Aristotle.
  • 232-304 C.E. PorphyryIsagoge. Compiled Plotinus’ Enneads, and wrote a life of Plotinus. He was strongly anti-Christian, yet he became important in the history of Christian mysticism.
  • 411-485 C.E. Proclusor Proclusthe Lycian : Neoplatonic philosopher was born. The Elements of Theology. Athenian Neo-platonist, who influenced Pseudo-Dionysius, and beyond him most of the mystical tradition.

Home superstitions

  • All locks in a house are unlocked at birthing to ensure an easy delivery.
  • Scatter Solomon’s seal on the floor to banish serpents and venomous creatures from the room.
  • To protect your house from lightning, gather hazel tree branches on Palm Sunday and keep them in water.
  • Add caraway seeds to chicken feed to keep poultry from wandering.
  • Feed the seeds to homing pigeons to help them find their way back.
  • Stuff fennel in your keyhole or hang it over your door to protect against witches.
  • Never carry a hoe into the house. If you do so by mistake, carry it out again, walking backward to avoid bad luck. Never walk under a ladder, which is Satan’s territory. If you must do it, cross your fingers or make the sign of the fig (closed fist, with thumb between index and middle fingers).
  • If you give a steel blade to a friend, make the recipient pay you a penny to avoid cutting the friendship.
  • Never give a knife as a housewarming present, or your new neighbor will become an enemy.
  • Never pound a nail after sundown, or you will wake the tree gods.
  • Nail an evergreen branch to new rafters to bring good luck.
  • An empty hornets’ nest, hung high, also will bring good luck to any age house.
  • When you move to a new house, always enter first with a loaf of bread and a new broom.
  • Never bring an old broom into the house.

Your Hair superstitions

  • If you don’t cover your bald head it will start raining.
  • If you shave your head on a Saturday, you will be in perpetual debt
  • You shouldn’t wash your hair the day before an exam.
  • Hair at no age must be cut at the waning of the moon, which would prevent it growing luxuriantly.
  • Hair cut off should always be burned; it unlucky to throw shorn hair away; otherwise, birds might make a nest of your hair, weaving tightly, so that you would have difficulty rising on your last day.
  • Choosing to cut your hair (or nails) on a particular day means the following: Cut them on Monday, you cut them for health; cut them on Tuesday, you cut them for wealth; cut them on Wednesday, you cut them for news; cut them on Thursday, a new pair of shoes; cut them on Friday, you cut them for sorrow; cut them on Saturday, see your true love tomorrow; cut them on Sunday, the devil will be with you all the week.
